Instructions for Preparation of Digests

Procedure and submission

The digest is NOT an abstract. It is a one-page condensation or summary which outlines the work to be reported and includes as many of the results as possible. The inclusion of figures, tables, and especially numerical results is strongly recommended. As in the past, the Program Committee will make its selection by ranking digest on their technical content and intelligibility. Authors considering submission of several digests are requested to combine them to achieve a balanced and high quality technical program.

Submit an electronic version of the digest to the Intermag 2002 website

by October 17, 2001.

The conference web site accepts digests in the following file formats:

Digests submitted in the above formats will be automatically converted into PDF format. In order to submit a digest, verify correct submission and receive notification of acceptance/rejection, the corresponding author is required to have a Java enabled browser, Acrobat Reader and an e-mail account. Free copies of suitable web browsers can be downloaded from the net: for instance Netscape Communicator at http://www.netscape.com/, or Microsoft Explorer at http://www.microsoft.com/ or If you do not have Acrobat Reader, a free version can be downloaded from the Intermag website or from Adobe at http://www.adobe.com/

Formatting instructions

  1. Each digest is limited to one page in length. All material on each page, including title, authors and affiliation, text, equations, figures, tables, and references must be contained within a 16.5 cm x 21.5 cm (6.5" x 8.5") rectangular area. Position this rectangular area such that the left hand-side, right hand-side and top margins are 2.5 cm (1") and the bottom margin is 3.5 cm (1.5"). [Note: The conversion from inches to cm is done to the closest 0.5 cm.]
  2. Center the title of the paper at the top of the page. It should be typed in capital letters and underlined. Two lines below give the name(s) of the authors(s), and on the next line the business affiliation and address.
  3. Skip two lines and start the text. The text must be neat and single spaced.
  4. Underline major headings. Place them flush on the left-hand margin and on a separate line. Only the initial letter of each major word in headings should be capitalized. The digests are too short to warrant minor headings.
  5. Any figures or photographs must be inserted into the digest within the 16.5 cm x 21.5 cm rectangular area.
  6. All lettering should be no smaller than 12 point.
  7. When numbering an equation, enclose the number in parentheses and place it flush with the right-hand side margin.
  8. List and number all bibliographical references at the end of the digest. When referring to them in the text, type the corresponding reference number in square brackets as shown at the end of this sentence [1].
  9. Digest must be in English, and only standard symbols and abbreviations should be used in the text and illustrations.
  10. Previous Intermag participants may recall that the corresponding author and presentation preference information used to be at the bottom of the first page of the digest. This information will now be entered directly to the web site. Do NOT include this information in the digest itself.

Templates

To help you generate your digest, we provide a number of templates. Please note that these templates are not thoroughly tested. Double-check the size of digest and the position on the page, because they may be wrong if you select for instance another paper format than A4.
