Guidelines for Presentations

It is important for all presenters to read the following guidelines:

Oral Presentations

    Basic  Considerations:
    • The audience has to be kept interested during the whole presentation. Only a very logically arranged presentation - clear, concise, and to the point - will accomplish this.
    • Too much material in the limited time allowed, or presentation of the material too rapidly will overwhelm the audience, and the speaker will lose the audience very quickly.
    • INTERMAG attendees come from a variety of scientific disciplines. Some tutorial background is recommended.
    • The enthusiasm of the speaker contributes as much to the success of the presentation as does the scientific content.
    Time:
    • Contributed papers are allowed 10 minutes for the presentation and 2 minutes for questions and discussion.
    • Invited papers are allowed 30 minutes for the presentation and 6 minutes for questions and discussion.
    • Session and paper times are listed in the program book to allow conference attendees to select talks they wish to hear from various disciplines. Session Chairs have been asked to enforce strict time limits.
    • Useful guideline: One transparency per minute.
    • Practice the presentation to ensure the maximum effect at the conference.
    Procedure:
    • Check-in with your session chair about five minutes before the session start time.
    • Presentations will be called only at the published times.
    • The talk HAS to be presented by an author registered for the conference. Authors not registered for the conference will NOT be allowed to make a presentation. If a talk is not presented, the paper will be reported as a "no-show" by the session chair and will NOT be published in the IEEE Transactions on Magnetics.
    Equipment:
    • Overhead projectors for transparencies will be available.
    • Audio-visual equipment other than an overhead projector will not be provided, unless requested well in advance by the author and authorized by both the Program Chair and the Treasurer.

     Poster Presentations

      Basic  Considerations:
      • Poster presentations are just as important a communication medium as oral presentations.
      • The key to a popular and effective poster presentation is careful preparation and organization of presentation materials. Logically arranged and posted materials are a natural audience draw.
      • Posting a copy of the paper, or similar "shortcuts," is strongly discouraged. The author clearly sends the signal that he/she did not care to prepare for the conference.
      • The size of the poster materials should be such that they are easily read  from a few meters away. Expect the aisles to be crowded.
      • Useful guideline: About 6 lines per poster page.
      • INTERMAG attendees come from a variety of scientific disciplines. Some tutorial background is recommended.
      • The enthusiasm of the presenter contributes as much to the success of the presentation as does the scientific content.
      Procedure:
      • The authors must be by their posters from 8:00-9:00 AM and 11:00 AM-12:00 Noon for morning sessions and from 1:00-2:00 PM and 4:00-5:00 PM for the afternoon sessions.
      • The available poster board area will be about 2 m wide by 1 m tall.
      • The poster HAS to be presented by an author registered for the conference. Authors not registered for the conference will NOT be allowed to make a presentation. If a poster is not presented, the paper will be reported as a "no-show" by the session chair and will NOT be published in the IEEE Transactions on Magnetics.
      • Promptly after the end of the session, remove all poster materials. Leave all pins at the poster area for use by authors in the subsequent poster sessions.
